Counterintuitive--The Paradox of Time -- Koramangala SPAR

A recent paper by the Department of Psychology, Stockholm University, S-106 91 Stockholm, Sweden has found that we are ineffectual in making correct judgment/selection on time-saving options.

"Consider an administration overhaul at a hospital clinic, such that the number of patients treated by each doctor per day is increased. In each pair, which improvement would free up the most doctors to go and work elsewhere?

a)Each day 11 patients treated per doctor instead of 5.
b)Each day, 8 patients treated per doctor instead of 4.

a)Each day, 8 patients treated per doctor instead of 4.
b)Each day, 16 patients treated per doctor instead of 7.

Svenson again found that her participants consistently applied the Ratio Rule, so that most of them said erroneously that option (a) was more time saving for the first pair, and that option (b) was more time saving for the second pair."

Last weekend in SPAR supermarket (Koramangala,Bangalore) a seemingly minor incident reminded me of the same.To avoid a huge queue the shop floor management have installed an automated token announcement system for the fish counter.

I, religiously took my token and was waiting in a convenient corner of the shop whence the token number display board is both visible & sonorous!

After waiting for almost half an hour or more and getting frustrated on the snail-pace of queue movement , I came to the conclusion that it is unwise to buy fish in SPAR Bangalore on Sundays.
Finally on behest of my companion we pushed through the fish lovers nest to find out that the "person-in-charge" of the fish section was delivering fish to the guys who took the last tokens in order to cut the queue short from end (!)..While the actual automated queue was moving at sloth pace for those who adhered to the process..

End of the day I managed to get some Catla and thanked the disordered state -- thinking that its the most stable state!!!
